When Apple announced earlier this year that it would be discontinuing iPhoto and Aperture in favor of the upcoming Photos app for OS X, Adobe announced that it would be releasing a tool that would allow users to transfer their libraries into Lightroom. That plugin has been released today on Adobe’s website and allows users to import photos, flags, ratings, keywords, and much more from the two outgoing apps into Adobe’s own offering....

Facebook’s share price took a huge hit yesterday – the biggest single-day fall for any company in history – as it revealed the impact of privacy issues. And Twitter isn’t faring too well either … Facebook was as much as 25% down in pre-market trading, and 20% down when the market re-opened. Adobe updated several of its Creative Cloud apps on iPadOS and macOS today, bringing highly requested features to iPad users and powerful tools for pros on the desktop. Adobe has introduced a public beta of Audition for Mac, its professional audio toolset for recording, mixing, editing and mastering. As The Loop notes, Audition hasn’t been made available for the Mac before, the software will be shipped on both Windows and Mac OS. You can join the free public beta for Audition for Mac here. The company says the software sits on a new underlying architecture. Adobe will aim it at broadcast and audio post-production markets, presumably seeing these as areas in which Apple’s own Logic suite isn’t entrenched....

This year marks the end of an era as Marvel’s flagship television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. begins it’s seventh and final series — officially marking it as the studio’s longest-running television show thus far. Airbnb has today signed agreements to acquire HotelTonight. The company announced the news via a press release. One of the main goals with the HotelTonight acquisition is to allow Airbnb users to make last-minute bookings at traditional hotels when private homes are booked for portions of your stay. This will also help bridge the gap between hotels and home hosts, allowing users to book rooms at traditional hotels, private homes, and boutique hotels using the Airbnb app....

Adobe is finally bringing decent Flash video support to iOS, only it will have to do an on the fly transcoding to do so. The latest release of Flash Media Server, version 4.5, implements new features that will allow same source video delivery thanks to “on demand repackaging” to both Flash and iOS via HTTP Dynamic or Live Streaming. While this is far from full-fledged Flash support on iPhone and iPad, it’s definitely a step in the right direction....

At MAX 2018, Adobe today held its annual Sneaks event, where early and upcoming macOS and iOS software features are previewed for the first time. While Adobe continues to direct a significant amount of energy toward building digital tools for artists of many disciplines, an increasingly important aspect of the company’s work relates to empowering and educating creative professionals outside of an app. The Adobe Fund for Design is a new, $10 million initiative to support teams that are building creative products and services that shape the future of their industries. “We have to engage designers and those who build on top of XD and Creative Cloud to transform it into a world-class platform for UX design,” said Vinh, speaking about the fund’s goals....

Adobe’s unveiling of its latest updates to Creative Cloud earlier this week came with the announcement it will only support Creative Cloud members for future updates, effectively dropping support for customers of its boxed CS6 suite and below apart from security updates and some bug fixes. Adobe has since taken to its Photoshop blog to respond to some of the questions regarding its new CC branded suite of apps and specifically the $20/per month Photoshop users will be forced to pay if they don’t want a full Creative Cloud membership....

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has seen many friendships develop over the years, but none have proven to be as great as the one between Skimmons. When Daisy (Chloe Bennet) was first introduced to the show, the writers’ presented her as an outsider; many of the other agents doubted her capabilities and thought she could be a liability. We learned earlier this week that Abu Dhabi airport was being exempted from the ban imposed on laptops and tablets in cabin baggage on certain US-bound flights, and the same now applies to two airlines flying from different airports … The BBC reports that large electronic devices are now permitted on board flights into the USA from Dubai and Istanbul. Permission was granted by the Department of Homeland Security after verifying that enhanced screening measures were in place for both passengers and their hand-baggage....

Fox has released a new trailer for James Gray’s sci-fi adventure, Ad Astra. The upcoming film is one of many that were either finished or close to being completed when Disney finalized its purchase of Fox’s entertainment assets back in March. And while the movie has already changed release dates once since then, its shift from May to September makes sense and positions Ad Astra for a potential awards season run in the fall (following its likely premiere at the Venice Film Festival ahead of then)....
