Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to finish later next year, but with Marvel Studios already looking to the future, there’s no doubt there may be some plans already in place for Daisy, FitzSimmons, Coulson, Mack, Yo-Yo and the rest of the gang. The show has gone from success to success becoming one of the most beloved superhero shows on TV today.

With so much time and energy having been put into these phenomenal characters, it would be a shame to lose them completely. The renaissance of S.H.I.E.L.D. itself could allow these agents to re-emerge into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe and contribute in a small way as supporting characters. Here are 10 places the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could appear next in the MCU.

RUNAWAYS/CLOAK AND DAGGER CROSSOVER

An incredibly exciting crossover episode has been announced for Cloak and Dagger and the Runaways that’s sure to have everyone talking when it airs. The two teams have already been heavily featured on TV thus far and become something of fan favorites.

With so many combustible elements set to unite for the first time and bring the MCU closer together, perhaps there is a governmental organization that would serve as some kind of obstacle to overcome. Enter the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. tasked with tracking down these potential threats. Of course long term they would realize the two teams were allies but it provides a great way to re-introduce them into a larger crossover event.

GHOST RIDER

The Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider has already been introduced in a previous S.H.I.E.L.D. season. He rode off into the sunset for now, but he’s set to return in his own series on Hulu. With a link already there, it wouldn’t be too shocking for at least Daisy to make a cameo appearance.

It’s previously been said that the Hulu version of the character will be different to what we’ve already seen but this may have changed now that Disney has a controlling interest in Hulu and will likely want to keep making the MCU feel much more connected. If Reyes is ever in trouble and needs to call in some allies, he would know exactly where to turn first.

WHAT IF…?

The What If…? series heading to Disney Plus is set to take a look back over the years of the MCU and make a few changes as time goes on. With S.H.I.E.L.D. a heavily featured part of phase 1 and part of phase 2 of the universe, it’s pretty expected they’ll return in some way.

Especially when exploring what could have happened in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, this could be a fun way to bring some of these characters back into the mix. Even just a nod towards a young Fitz and Simmons who are working in the science department would be a really easy way to tie the show and it’s characters back into the wider MCU.

NETFLIX REVIVAL

There’s a lot of big changes happening in phase 4 of the MCU. The heroes we came to love over at Netflix have seemingly been canceled, but there’s always hope for them to re-appear in the future. Perhaps the likes of Daredevil and Jessica Jones can find a home alongside Quake and Coulson.

The canceled properties from various networks could all be put in one much larger show that celebrated the MCU. It would have the various heroes crossing over on a regular basis and could even be written into the films at some point, if such a show was optioned for Disney Plus. If we ever saw it, it would probably be on Hulu though and we have to wait at least 2 years before the Netflix rights are back.

FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier both have a long history with the secretive organization. With the pair getting their own series on Disney Plus and the theme seemingly set around the battle to be Captain America, it would make sense to reintroduce S.H.I.E.L.D. into the mix.

Now that Hydra is completely removed from its ranks, perhaps now is the time to show Earth’s heroes that the team is back in a big way. They might be the only group capable of containing the fight that might be unleashed, especially when Winter Soldier is usually quite reckless. Not only this, there’s espionage at play with the return of Sharon Carter who could help to bring back S.H.I.E.L.D.

AGENT CARTER RETURN

There have been calls for Peggy Carter to be given her third and final season for some time now. After getting canceled following two series of the show on ABC, Disney Plus seems like a natural opportunity for Hayley Atwell to return to our screens as the British spy.

This could be done in a number of ways, but it may allow for a chance to tie in the modern-day agents. Perhaps by bringing Carter to the present day with time travel, or more likely, by sending the agents back in time, the two could finally crossover and be a part of one series together on Disney Plus.

CAPTAIN MARVEL 2

The first Captain Marvel saw S.H.I.E.L.D. in its heyday, in all of its glory. With the team-up of Coulson and Nick Fury once again, things felt like they were back to normal. But of course, this was in the ’90s and didn’t feature modern-day and prominent members of the team.

If Captain Marvel 2 is going to carry on this link between Danvers and the organization and is based mostly in the present era, then many of the major team members could be set to make their big-screen debut. Not only this, we’ve seen Fury working on a project in outer space and S.H.I.E.L.D. are now very well equipped to deal with cosmic threats, making them great for the role.

LOKI

Loki picks up after the god of mischief managed to escape in a different timeline. Because the events of that reality are quite different, it could be an excuse to bring the team in to track down the Asgardian. There could even be a chance to add characters that we haven’t seen in some time.

In this way, Loki would still be tracked through time, as they have this capability but Marvel wouldn’t have to bring in the higher paid actors in order to fill the role. In that reality, it’s unlikely he would go left unchecked, but a team of TV’s best agents could be on the job so that Nick Fury can focus on other threats that are very likely continuing to surface.

SHE-HULK

Another Disney Plus show that’s making its debut in phase 4 is She-Hulk. The lawyer, fourth wall breaker and all-around hero is going to be going through both battles in the courtrooms and on the streets. With a lot of legal work, there’s probably going to be a government agency linked to the unfolding events.

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could provide some much needed extra muscle when Walters is going up against some larger threats. Not only would they make great courtroom bouncers in a kind of cameo role, but they’d also be able to keep up with the madness of a larger world of monsters, mutants, and aliens.

BLACK WIDOW

We have no idea what Natasha was up to following the events of Civil War. That’s why the Black Widow is getting her own movie to fill in some of the gaps. Throughout we’re going to explore some of her history, which would likely include her time with S.H.I.E.L.D.

By doing this, a link can be made between the agents of the past and present. The team was still very much operating during this time period and Natasha could have run across them during her travels. They do not have to be a heavily featured part of the film, but it would make sense that they are present to honor her time with the team.
