Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has continued to improve with each season. Characters have evolved well past where they were at the start of the show. Moving into season 4, the series has tackled the introduction of Inhumans, taking down Hydra, and more, which brought them to Ghost Rider and Life Model Decoys (LMDs).
The first episodes of season 4 focused primarily on Gabriel Luna’s fiery anti-hero, but also introduced Aida (Mallory Jansen). She and Dr. Radcliffe (John Hannah) have since become part of a larger plot against S.H.I.E.L.D. since the show returned from its winter break. The new LMD story won’t last forever as expected, but once the third season 4 arc has been revealed, one star says longtime viewers will be rewarded.
Chloe Bennet, who plays Daisy Johnson, aka Quake, spoke to ET Online about the packed fourth season of S.H.I.E.L.D. The actress joked(?) that no one is safe from being revealed to be an LMD, and went on to tease what else will happen once the LMD pod or storyline has wrapped.
S.H.I.E.L.D. has consistently kept its viewers on their toes by introducing big new stories multiple times throughout a season. Though this is not the first time the idea of pods has been discussed, as executive producers Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell spoke at the TCA winter event about the introduction of a third storyline in season 4.
“For the fans that have been watching from day one, you’re going to get a lot out of the back half of the season. The third pod really is a mind bender… It’s going to throw people for a loop. It’s really insane. Everything that you know about the show gets turned upside down… It’s a really fun way to mix up the show.”
What story the third pod will follow is currently unknown, though Loeb and series co-creator Jed Whedon said the three pods will all be connected. Hopefully, Bennet’s mind-bending tease can live up to the hype. After all, if this third pod both rewards longtime viewers and flips the show upside down, there could potentially be many stories to explore.
In fact, this could already be set in motion by bringing back Patton Oswalt as the Koenig brothers in the newest episode. The reveal of their family secret has been a burning, unanswered question since season 1, so perhaps this is part of the reward for longtime viewers. Then again, this could be the chance S.H.I.E.L.D. has been waiting for to bring back someone like Graviton and/or Ian Quinn – a storyline that was abandoned in season 2 despite heavily teasing their partnership. There could be a number of other ways to tie everything together, but for now, all fans of the show can do is wait and see what surprises are in store.
