Funny and relatable life situations, death metal music and adorably drawn animals with human characteristics.  What more could you want in an anime? The comedy anime Aggretsuko includes all of those things.  This anime is about Retsuko, a 25-year-old red panda who has a crummy job and releases her anger by singing death metal songs.

There is so much to know about the main characters, but because each episode is around 15 minutes long it can be hard to pay attention to every detail about each one. There are currently two seasons releases on Netflix and it has been renewed for a third.  Before the third season comes out, here are 10 hidden details about the main characters everyone seemed to have missed.

FENNEKO IS A SOCIAL MEDIA JUNKIE

Fenneko, one of Retsuko’s close co-workers, is addicted to social media.  During episode one of season one, Fenneko criticized fellow co-worker Tsunoda for having weird social media patterns and posting pictures to possibly attract guys.  Although Fenneko may not post pictures or make constant updates like Tsunoda, she is constantly on social media to spy on other people.

She uses it to do deep detective work like finding the location of people, finding out what someone does after work and finding out who is dating who.  She always has her phone ready in case she needs to find out something about someone.

Fenneko Isn’t Always Pessimistic And Dark

Fenneko is also the type of friend that always says something morbid and has a dark sense of humor.  She monotoned and says things straightforward.  She even makes fun of her friends at times and laughs at their shortcomings in a playful way.  However, through all of this she is very caring and protective of her friends.

Puko May Not Be As Happy As She Seems

Puko is Retsuko’s former high school classmate, and in episode two of season one she catches up with Retsuko after coming back to Japan.  Puko is an adventurous couch suffer, unlike Retsuko who has a corporate job.  When thinking about it, Puko’s personality would allow her to fit right in if this was the Cowboy Bebop world.

Retsuko expressed her admiration for her carefree, laid-back life.  However, Puko thanked Retsuko for being one of those people who has a steady job and pays their taxes.  There might be a part of Puko that would like to have a steady job with a good flow of income like Retsuko.

Gori Is Shy

Gori is one of the female higher-ups who Retsuko admires.  She may come off as intimidating and very serious, but really she is shy, kind hearted, and fun.  Retsuko was nervous in front of presence, but Gori was just as nervous when she tried to talk to Retsuko for the first time.  Her big, strong muscles could make her look tough, but she turns out to be very silly and nice.  She is also very emotional and expresses her feelings around her friends.  She is an example of why you should not judge a book by its cover.

Washimi Is The Wise One

Washimi is another female higher up who Retsuko admires.  She is also very close friends with Gori.  Washimi gives great advice to Retsuko and Gori.  She is usually calm and knows how to deal with problems relating to her job in a mature and forceful way.  She uses logic to solve a problem, but uses the strength in her legs to chop a desk in half in order to get someone’s attention if she needs to.  When she found out about the harassment Retsuko is getting from her boss, Ton, she confronted the CEO about it.

Tsunoda Is A Manipulator

Nami from One Piece isn’t the only well known manipulative anime character around.  Tsunoda, Retsuko’s co-worker, is a manipulator but in a good way.  Not many of the other co-workers like her; especially Fenneko, because she kisses up to Ton.  She acts ditzy and like an air-head around him.  She also promotes the female worker stereotype by at times pretending that her work is too hard and that she is only capable of getting her boss tea.  But we find out that she does this to make her life easier and to avoid Ton’s harassment.  She is outsmarting Ton.  After telling Retsuko that she kisses up to Ton as a way to make her work life better and that she doesn’t care if anyone hates her for it, we can understand that she is actually wise.

Ton Is A Product Of His Generation

Ton is Retsuko’s terrible, sexist, demanding boss.  He treats everyone as low-leveled lifeforms, until he gets reported to the president of the company. In episode seven of season one, Ton is forced to be nicer to his employees after the president of the company confronts him about his actions.  Ton’s niceness doesn’t sit easy with everyone else.  During the episode everyone from work goes out for drinks, and this is when he reveals to Retsuko how hard it was for him when he was their age.  Ton reveals that how he was treated when he was her age and working was something that he had to just toughen out and get through.

Kabae Is Annoying But Caring

Kabae is the character that everyone would hate at work.  She’s not as annoying as Excalibur from Soul Eater, but she’s close.  She spreads rumors and gets into everyone’s business. She is also very talkative and pushy.

With all of her bad qualities, she is actually a caring person.  When Retsuko didn’t have lunch one day, Kabae gave her half of hers. Kabae also told Tsunoda about Retsuko quitting her job even though it was false, but she only did that because she thought the two were best friends.  She was thinking of Tsunoda’s feelings.  She is also a mother of three kids, and being caring is a motherly quality.

Haida Is Older Than What We Probably Think

Haida is another one of Retsuko’s close co-workers.  Haida has a crush on Retsuko and is always there for her.  For example, in episode four of season two, he helped her with the problem she had with the new guy she was assigned to train named Anai.

Retsuko is 25-years-old and Haida has mentioned that he has been working at their company a little bit longer than she has.  This makes it easy to assume that he is probably not the same age as her.  He also has bags under his eyes which makes him appear older.

Retsuko Loves Beer

In many episodes, Retsuko goes out drinking.  She is usually drinking at a restaurant with her co-workers after work and at karaoke.  She seems to stick with one drink, and that’s beer.  Even in her room there are empty beer cans around.

It’s not just Retsuko who loves beer, but her co-workers as well.  This seems to be the main characters’ drink of choice.  Retsuko may have a crummy job, but she does know how to have a little bit of fun.
